Foundations of Appreciative Coaching
This foundational program is a week-long combination of the two introductory programs:
While the content provided in the Foundations program is the same as the material presented in these two introductory programs the content is presented in a different sequence to allow the coaching material to presented throughout the week.
In this introductory program participants are introduced to both appreciative inquiry and transformational coaching using the appreciative inquiry strategies. Participants will be taught essential coaching strategies, based in the appreciative inquiry approach, to establish a coaching relationship and to help people make transformational breakthroughs in their life and work.
This introductory program is a precursor to our Advanced Coach Training and is also part of our Appreciative Coaching Certificate program.

- Setting the Coaching Agenda

Who Should Attend This Program
- Clergy

who are also clergy or who work with clergy and churches
- Leaders who coach or mentor staff and volunteers
- Life coaches who want to offer coaching from an appreciative perspective
While primarily oriented toward clergy this program is also open to those who have substantial experience as a Coach or mentor and who are interested in working with clergy and who can reflect theologically and psychologically on their coaching. The program would also be appropriate for anyone wanting to provide life-coaching from an appreciative perspective.

Eligibility Requirements to take Appreciative Coach Training
To participate in our Appreciative Coach training programs participants must have:
- A graduate level degree (MDiv, MA, MS etc.) in the helping sciences
- A graduate level degree (MBA, MS, etc.) in business or science plus 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
- An undergraduate degree (BA, BS etc.) plus 7 years of experience in a leadership role.
Note: Work experience must be in a leadership capacity that is applicable to the work of clergy and others in leadership roles. In addition all candidates must be able to reflect theologically and psychologically on their life and work.
Continuing Education Credit
This program qualifies for 30 contact hours of continuing education credit.
Workshop Format
The workshop will typically be conducted in a retreat setting with:
- Didactic presentations>
- Personal practice and experience of coaching exercises
- Time for personal reflection and synthesis
Learning Objectives
- To provide participants with a basic understanding of the theory and research that under girds the process of Appreciative Inquiry.
- To provide participants with a basic understanding of the work of Appreciative Coaching utilizing an Appreciative Inquiry philosophy and process and the knowledge base of Transformational and Executive Coaching.
- To provide participants with an incarnational model of joining with others to establish a coaching agenda and co-create preferred outcomes.
- To provide participants with appreciative models of organizational development for working as a consultant with congregations and other faith based organizations.

Schedule:
A typical coach training schedule is as follows. Sessions include didactic presentations, personal reflection, Bible study and the daily offices from the Episcopal tradition.
Attention is paid to managing personal energy during the training program while maximizing participants opportunities to learn. Because this training is intense we recommend people make appropriate travel plans and can begin the first days training rested so as to get the best possible return for your tuition expenses.

Note: The above schedule includes meals for commuters. When residential accommodation is provided, residential participants will also be provided with Breakfast and Supper during the course of the week.
Accommodation
Accommodation and facility use fees are extra and are dependent on the training locations and will be specified on the registration forms. Meals between sessions are typically provided for commuters.
Presenter
Rob Voyle is an ordained Episcopal priest, psychologist, and executive coach. He is the Director of the Clergy Leadership Institute. Rob was an original faculty member, and taught for five years at the College of Executive Coaching where he taught and coached hundreds of personal and executive coaches how to use appreciative inquiry as a basis for their coaching work.
