Course Schedule

Course Work: 1.5 hours of recorded online class that is completed prior to the tutorial.
The material is presented online and can be accesed at anytime during the program

Tutorial: Conference call for just-in-time consultation and group exercises.

Week 1: Introduction - The Importance of Focus and Positive Emotion

  Metaphors for our best.
  The impact of positive emotion.

Week 2: Ensuring Change is a Blessing : Appreciative Understanding of Creating Change
  Moving from problems to solutions.
  Understanding resistance as an act of wisdom.
  Discovering the root cause of success.

Week 3: Creating Appreciative Relationships
  Transactional Analysis model of joining.
  The three faces of compassion, tenderness, fierceness, and mischievousness.
  Using compassionate strategies to enable transformation.

Week 4: Discovering Resources
  Going beyond being positive to discovering what is life-giving.   Locating resources on the spiral of life.
  Strategies to achieve collaboration.

Week 5: The Appreciative Inquiry Summit
  5D spiral of development.
  Understanding the impact of questions.
  Crafting interview questions.

Week 6: Dream: Envisioning the Future
  Living and working from a place of purpose and vision
  Creating images of the future.
  Creating provocative purpose statements.

Week 7: Design: Creating the Future
  Present reality and preferred future.
  Implementing designs and assessing outcomes.
  Staying resourceful.

Week 8: Assumptions of Appreciative Inquiry
  The underlying assumptions of appreciative inquiry
  Comparison of historic epistemologies and social constructionism
  Next steps.

Learning Objectives

  • To provide participants with a basic understanding of the theory and research that under girds the process of Appreciative Inquiry.
    Specifically the emerging social constructionist paradigm and the power of positive questions and metaphors for enabling human transformation.
  • To provide participants with strategies for implementing an Appreciative Inquiry process with themselves, others and organizations to enable innovative, creative personal and organizational change.
  • To provide participants with ways of identifying appreciative processes in contrast to problem or pathology driven models of intervention and to use these appreciative processes to enhance personal and organizational effectiveness.

Continuing Education Credit

This program qualifies for 20 hours of continuing education credit.

This program currently does not qualify as continuing education for psychologists.

Cost and Cancellation

Complete Tuition cost: $395 payable prior to Week 1.
Cancellation with a 5% cancellation fee may be made prior to the first week and the receipt of personal passwords.
No refunds are available after receipt of the passwords and access to the online material.

Although this program is designed with clergy in mind, it would also be appropriate for anyone who can articulate and reflect psychologically and theologically on their ministry or vocation. It is especially relevant for:
