Leadership Development
The ability to lead groups of people through change is rapidly becoming a core requirement of successful ministry. Research on leadership development has shown that leadership is:
- Not simply an innate ability of extraordinary people
- The things ordinary people do to get groups of people to achieve extraordinary things
- Leadership can be taught and learned as a series of specific competencies
Executive Coaching has proven to be one of the most effective means of developing leadership competencies. The Coaching Competent Leaders program is a unique blend of:
- Theological reflection
- Appreciative inquiry
- Organizational psychology
- Emotional intelligence
- Leadership theory
- Executive coaching
Training Objectives
- To provide participants a background understanding of the theory and dynamics of leadership as a distinct behavior in contrast to other ministry and pastoral skills.
- To provide participants an understanding of organizational change dynamics and the role of the leader in facilitating and coaching change.
- Participants in the coach training program will be able to use these understandings when coaching clergy and executives to become competent leaders.
Training Outcome
Following training participants should be able to positively and uniquely answer the three coaching questions:
- Why would people get coaching from me?
- Where would people end up if they did get coaching from me?
- How would they be treated on the way?
Who Should Attend This Program
- Clergy
- Psychologists, Consultants and Counselors who are also clergy or who work with clergy and churches
- Leaders who coach or mentor staff and volunteers
- Executive coaches who work in the area of leadership development
This program will have a mix of people including:
- Clergy who are seeking to develop the leadership skills
- Coaches who want to learn to use leadership assessments in their coaching
- Clergy who are taking the Certificate in Appreciative Transition Ministry
While primarily oriented toward coaching clergy in their leadership competencies this program is also open to those who have substantial experience as a Coach or mentor and who are interested in working with clergy or are interested in Executive Coaching and who can reflect theologically and psychologically on their coaching.
